DirectSens® leverages the latest advances in analytical biotechnology to deliver innovative solutions for applications ranging from simple onsite food analysis to clinical diagnostics. Through targeted enzyme engineering, highly selective and longterm stable biocatalysts are developed which, in combination with robust electrochemical sensor technology, achieve what once seemed impossible: reliable and precise analytical systems that are nevertheless so easy to use that no chemical expertise is required.
At Analytica 2026, DirectSens® will present its current product portfolio, with a particular focus on the new biosensor platform for food and beverage analysis. Sensors for maltose and glucose enable the determination of sugar content — for example in vegan beverages — directly in the production environment within just 12 minutes. Previously, such samples often had to be sent to external laboratories for HPLC analysis, resulting in waiting times of several days.
Breweries also benefit: glucose and maltose measurement allows precise fermentation monitoring. In addition, DirectSens® offers a biosensorbased alcohol measurement system optimized specifically for nonalcoholic beers, enabling quality control close to production. Further important sugars — including fructose and sucrose — as well as the fermentation parameter lactate are currently in the pipeline.
Lactate also plays a central role in the healthtech sector, particularly in continuous lactate monitoring using sensorbased wearables. Under the LactaZyme® brand, DirectSens® is developing tailormade enzymes with technical properties previously considered unattainable. The focus here is on enzymatic activity, selectivity, and stability.
DirectSens® is also working on groundbreaking innovations in the field of clinical diagnostics: the enzymatic assay kit Xpress GT is intended to replace the timeconsuming and uncomfortable oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) used to diagnose gestational diabetes, by enabling a fast and simple determination of a specific marker substance in the blood.
