The Vienna Institute of BioTechnology VIBT is a research initiative of several departments of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna.
DirectSens is an innovative BOKU spin-off company developing bioelectrochemical sensor systems for the detection of carbohydrates in medical and industrial applications.
The laboratory of Prof. Dietmar Haltrich invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the project „StaREliS – Stabilisation of Redox Enzymes for long-term implantable Sensors”. The project is a close cooperation with the biosensor company DirectSens.
Redox enzymes are widely used in construction of electrochemical sensors. A key criterion for the application in long-term stable, implantable sensors is a continuous enzyme activity and thus long-term stability under working conditions. Within the framework of StaREliS, the deactivation mechanism of these enzymes is to be elucidated and will serve as basis for the development of stable enzymes for long-term implantable biosensors. The influence of different working conditions and oxidative stress is to be investigated by a combination of different biochemical analysis methods such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and enzyme kinetics with molecular methods such as enzyme mutagenesis and protein models. High-throughput screening and rational design approaches will be used to improve the long-term stability.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in related fields including, but not limited to biochemistry, immunology, biophysics, and bioengineering. Desirable backgrounds/skills include: i) molecular biology methods; ii) high throughput screening methods / yeast display and iii) molecular dynamics simulations. Applicants should be experienced in project management, staff supervision and should have good spoken and written communication skills.
A successful applicant will work in excellently equipped laboratories of VIBT and DirectSens with access to all core facilities. He/She will be teamed with a lab technician and integrated in a successful industrial research group. Gross salary is € 52.000 per year. The project start is as soon as possible. Project duration is 2.5 years
The labs are located in Muthgasse 11 in Vienna, Austria, regularly named best city to live in.
Interested applicants should send i) a cover letter briefly describing your previous experience and future research interests/plans, ii) a curriculum vitae, and iii) contact information of three references to Prof. Dr. Dietmar Haltrich (firstname.lastname@example.org). Date: 15.07.2018
